Beginning in 2017, the board updated the law which removed exemption from cosmetologists in the profession for longer than 20 years, requiring all renewing licensees to complete continuing education. The Illinois Board of Cosmetology, IDFPR, states you must complete the continuing education requirements to renew.
The Barber, Cosmetology, Esthetics, Hair Braiding, and Nail Technology Act of 1985 (“Act”) was recently amended to remove the Continuing Education Exemption for cosmetologists, cosmetology teachers, and cosmetology clinic teachers. Starting with the 2017 license renewal application all cosmetologists, cosmetology teachers, and cosmetology clinic teachers regardless of age and years of experience must complete the continuing education requirements prior to submitting their renewal application. Please refer to Section 410/3-7 of the Barber, Cosmetology, Esthetics, Hair Braiding and Nail Technology Act of 1985 for complete continuing education requirements. The Act is available on our website at https://idfpr.illinois.gov/.
